We looked at ideas for our logo that the guys from 'Everywhere' had put together. This is some of the feedback on some of the ideas:
- The colours that we like the most are the yellow, purple and blue palette
- Direction text - arrows/directions
- Stencil text is used far to much
- Like the city scape style text
- Don't like chunky fonts
We discussed the two names for the website as 'Smartz' and 'Ask keely'. We decided that we wanted to stick with the name 'Ask keely as it will add a personality to the website.
We talked about the copy for the website:
- Needs to have a face and name
- Encouraging
- Friendly
- Perhaps have a Keely says area
- Use the word 'Measy' (uneasy)
Activity
We all sketched out our ideas for logos and they looked really great.
We discussed the different areas of the website and compiled a more comprehensive list of what it would feature under each heading.
First Aid
- Frank
- A postcode or area hospital finder
- The recovery position steps, CPR and stopping bleeding
These will act as the first steps if somebody is injured on a night out and waiting for an ambulance. We will contact St John's Ambulance to find out if we can use any of these first aid tips/help.
Copy ideas for this section:
- What do do, Where to go and Who to ask.
Travel/Getting Home
- TFL
- LBC radio travel updates
- Tube Buddy app
- Halo/Cab app
Extra Smart
We have decided to merge both the Smartz sections and the Extra sections together to make 'Extra Smart'. This will include:
- Free 02 texts
- 08000mumdad
- Google maps
- And anything else that we want to add as an extra
We filled in feedback forms and will look forward to the next session, which will be working on the next stages of the website.
St Andrew's Youth Club, Peabody and Poached Creative have all come together to work on a new 'Staying Safe' mobile website campaign. The mobile website will be created during weekly sessions, where at least eight young people will learn how to run a successful campaign. Made up of 13-19 year olds, the sessions aim to help all participants gain new skills and have a positive effect on other young people. You can follow our weekly progress through our blogs.

Session 6 - Looking At Designs and Layout Ideas For The Mobile Website - 17/01/12
- Type
- Colours
- Surfaces, etc
We looked through some styles with Everywhere to see what we may want our website to look like or to feature.
- Like the tattoo style images
- Like pink and blue colours
- Drawn elements instead of photographs?
- Don't want it to be too in your face/bright
- Like neon style lettering
- Like purple Nike illustration styles

- Bit simpler
- Purple and blue (cyan)
- Want a character to make it consistent
- Graffiti is a good direction - can work for headers, can draw you in, but not in the main body text
- Can't be to complicated
- Like drips coming from letters
- Purple and yellow
- Black is a bit sinister
- Like subtle ways of referencing objects
- Like neon writing - bit more simplified
We discussed the features that we should have on the website that we haven't already featured.
- Tube map
- Google maps
- An animated speech bubble with 999 in it on each page
- Hospital finder by GPS using postcode/place name
Everywhere put together some layout ideas for us to look through and decide between for each page of our website. We chose which layouts that we preferred and worked individually to design a page each for our website.

Session 4 - Visit To Digital Agency - Everywhere - 13/12/11
This session we all went on the mini bus to a digital agency called Everywhere. When we arrived we filled the creative's in on our idea for creating a mobile website.
Our initial idea:
What 'Everywhere' do and a bit about them:
The guys at Everywhere filled us in on what they do and how they came to be. They showed us some examples of other projects that they have worked on, which looked really great.
What Do We Want On Our Website?
We discussed what the main things we wanted on our mobile website was and referred back to our original spider diagram of ideas. We worked on a mind map on a white board and put the components of the website in order of importance.
1. Directions, route planner/buses/trains (TFL) and taxi numbers.
2. Advice, first aid and drugs info (Frank)
3. Area alerts and free online texts (02)
4. Personalisation?
Planning Our Website On Paper
We were all given a sheet where we had to plan in order our mobile website's features. It was really useful as we could see what we wanted clearer and we had support to do this.
A special thank you to Everywhere for sharing their knowledge and supporting us in creating our mobile website.

Session 3 - Who Is The Website For And What Content Do We Need? - 06/12/11
Looking at QR codes
We started the session by looking at QR codes. We all had to try and scan the blog QR code using our mobile phones. Nobody already had a QR code reader on their mobiles, so we all had to download one so that we could try the code out.
We looked at where we could put QR codes for the mobile website to get people's attention:
- Bus Stops
- Phone boxes
- Chicken Shops
- Toilet doors ( ie public/ bar / McDonalds ) and condom vending machines
- Local newspapers
- Youth centres

How could we display them?
- Stickers
- Flyers or business cards
- Posters
Our target audience
Group activity:
We split into groups and created mood boards of what our target audience like and are into.
Looking at our target audience:
- 15 - 19 year olds in central London
They are into:
- Fashion
- Celebrities
- The opposite sex
- Looking good
- Phones
- Music
- Entertainment
- Smart phones
They care about:
- Friends
- Family
- Money
- How they look
- Travel and transport is a major cost and concern
- Safety and sexual health
Market research and vox pops
Group activity:
We all split into three teams for a market research and vox pops group activity. The groups all had to
get some feedback on what other young people felt about safety, personal experiences and what they'd need from a mobile website. We started with a basic interview and filmed the best answers.
The main concerns that came out of the research were:
- Getting home safely and cheaply
- What to do in an medical emergency (e.g. a friend passing out drunk)
- Sexual health
- Finding bus stops locally and/or a safe taxi
We all agreed that in a REAL emergency twe would call the police for assistance. This determined our final decision that the purpose of the website was to offer help in situations that would usually result in having to call a friend or get family members out of bed late at night.

Session 2 - Understanding How Mobile Phones Can Help You Stay Safe - 29/11/11
We kicked the session off with a group activity. We split up into three groups, were given a scenario and had to come up with a solution using what we had.
Group 1
One of your close friends has passed out. You don't know if it's just that she's been drinking or had her drink spiked but you can't get her to talk. It's 12:50am on a Saturday and you're in Leicester Square with no phone credit. You've heard that it's easy to choke on your vomit when you're drunk but you're not sure what the recovery position is. Using your phone find websites to:
1. Show you how to put your friend in the recovery position.
2. The nearest hospital OR medical phone helpline and decide how to get your friend to safety
Group 2
A fight has broken out in a chicken shop in Westminster between three boys (two against one). The owner throws them all out but you can see that the two trouble causers have ducked round the corner and haven't left the scene. Meanwhile the boy they attacked has a bust nose and is bleeding on the street and you realise you go to school with him. You have no phone credit and you're the only person who's seen what happened and you are worried that the two older boys will come back.
1. Police gang unit support number
2. Basic medical attention guidance
How will you stop the situation from escalating?
Group 3
You're in Camden, it's Friday night and you've just missed the last tube home. You promised you'd be in before 1:30am and it's 12:45am. You have an oyster card with £5, £5 cash and phone credit. What are your options to get back to Westminster? Using your phone find websites to:
1. Alternative public transport
2. Safe mini cab number
What's the best option to get you home in time?
The group activity taught us many things:
- This is why we need to create a website
- Keywords are important
- The internet is useless
- We need to think about what people will search for
- We need to label photos and videos - so they can be found easier
We discussed some keywords that we may need to use for our website:
- Emergency
- Safety
- Problem
- Trains
- Drugs
- Help
- Issue
- Gangs
- Cab/taxi
- Alcohol
- Attack
- Knife
- Fight
- Spiked
- Weapons
- London
- Buses
Our website will be aimed at young people - under 24
We discussed that our website needs to:
- Have no ads
- Be mobile optimised
- Videos are not useful in an emergency
- Short bullet points
- Video messages
- Create a person - to be the face of the website - a boy and a girl
- Text and diagrams - clear!
- Video on facebook and at end click here message
- Want people to know website
- Audio with instructions - it's quicker
- Pictures
- If we use video it has to be useful
- Idea for a name - Smarties at hand?
Group activity 2:
Looking at:
1. What steps do we need to do to create the website?
- Images
- Colour
- Layout
- Steps
- Format
- Text
- Navigation
- Hyper links
- Audio clips
- Logo/name
2. What do we need to do to make sure young people find out about the website? 3. What do we need to promote the website online?
- Assemblies
- Youth clubs
- Flyers
- Posters
- Groups
- Tell people - friends and family
- Make a Facebook page/ group
- Ask advertisers
4. What do we need to do to measure success?
- Facebook polls
- We can have a rating that shows you how many people are using it
We are interested in:
- Learning how to create a logo
- CMS
- Get a developer
- Learning about website design
We discussed that out audience to reach will be - 300 people
Updates:
We will be going on a visit to a digital agency in Spitalfields on 13th December 2011.

Session 1 - Introduction To Campaigning - 22/11/11
The session began with introductions and a brief recap of ideas. We looked at the two choices of mobile applications and mobile websites. We discussed that the app or website would cover:
- All aspects of safety
- Hospital contacts
- Safe sex
- Crime
- Transport - TFL and taxi numbers
We looked at what a campaign is:
- A group of people coming together
Campaign - To engage in an operation planned to achieve a certain goal.
- If you get it right, you can see something that you have changed
- By tracking you'll be able to see how many people are benefiting from your campaign
We looked at examples of good campaigns:
- Battlefront - a team of young people campaigning about various issues.
We looked at a break down of what this campaign would be all about. Some really great ideas came up:
- Most of the group have HTC, Blackberry or LG mobile phones
- The main page for mobile website would be good if it popped up as a homepage
We discussed how we all use our phones:
- BBM
- Twitter
- Maps
- Facebook
- Taxi numbers
- Train times/buses/TFL
How would you use the app or mobile website?
- Taxis (no money)
- Card for family to put money on
- Finding out where things are
- Conflict resolution
- Basic first aid
- Non emergency police and ambulance services
We worked in groups to look at websites on our mobiles:
We looked at some stats:
- By 2014 mobile web browsing will take over usual web browsing
We discussed pros and cons of apps and mobile websites:
Mobile website:
PROS:
- You don't have to download it
- Easier to link
- Does lots of things
- More options
CONS:
- Can be slow
- Not all mobiles can go online
Mobile app:
PROS:
- Already on phone
- Easier to access
CONS:
- Less options
- You have to go online to access some services
- Only works on certain platforms
- More expensive
We all voted to decide whether a mobile app or a mobile website would be better to work on:
APP - 4 people voted for
SITE - 6 people voted for
So the outcome was that we will now be working to create a mobile website!
We all did a quiz to get us all thinking about websites and came up with ideas for our group name:
- P.S.Safety
- Smarties
We all filled in feedback forms and the session came to an end.
