Session 3 - Who Is The Website For And What Content Do We Need? - 06/12/11

Looking at QR codes

We started the session by looking at QR codes. We all had to try and scan the blog QR code using our mobile phones. Nobody already had a QR code reader on their mobiles, so we all had to download one so that we could try the code out.
We looked at where we could put QR codes for the mobile website to get people's attention:
- Bus Stops
- Phone boxes
- Chicken Shops
- Toilet doors ( ie public/ bar / McDonalds ) and condom vending machines
- Local newspapers
- Youth centres

How could we display them?
- Stickers
- Flyers or business cards
- Posters

Our target audience

Group activity:

We split into groups and created mood boards of what our target audience like and are into.

Looking at our target audience:
- 15 - 19 year olds in central London

They are into:
- Fashion
- Celebrities
- The opposite sex
- Looking good
- Phones
- Music
- Entertainment
- Smart phones

They care about:
- Friends
- Family
- Money
- How they look
- Travel and transport is a major cost and concern
- Safety and sexual health

Market research and vox pops

Group activity:

We all split into three teams for a market research and vox pops group activity. The groups all had to
get some feedback on what other young people felt about safety, personal experiences and what they'd need from a mobile website. We started with a basic interview and filmed the best answers.

The main concerns that came out of the research were:
- Getting home safely and cheaply
- What to do in an medical emergency (e.g. a friend passing out drunk)
- Sexual health
- Finding bus stops locally and/or a safe taxi

We all agreed that in a REAL emergency twe would call the police for assistance. This determined our final decision that the purpose of the website was to offer help in situations that would usually result in having to call a friend or get family members out of bed late at night.
